The Tastiest Fertility Smoothie That Works for Women and Men

Find the tastiest fertility smoothie that will work for you!

Whether you are trying to conceive naturally or looking at undergoing a procedure such as IVF (like me), there are always ways you can increase your fertilization and chances of conceiving.

I went through IVF and I knew the process was not guaranteed to work.

I remember waiting and waiting for the BIG positive and then crossing my fingers that my pregnancy continued (I had a miscarriage before this pregnancy and was worried in the beginning).

When you are at a stage in your life where you want to be a parent more than anything, there isn’t anything you won’t do to make that happen.

One thing I did early on in my fertility journey was to completely rearrange my diet and ensure that I was eating nutritious and healthy foods that would increase my chances of conception.

But sometimes getting in enough healthy meals during the day can be difficult – which is why I love smoothies!

While I don’t suggest drinking smoothies all day, they are definitely a great way to get a nutritional boost during the day and increase your chances of fertility.

Here is the one fertility smoothie that works for women and men as well as some other fertility boosting foods you should add to your diet.

How to Make the Best Fertility Smoothie

When making a fertility smoothie, there are six things you need to have. Of course, you can also add other supplements but make sure you have these core six.

1. Fruits

When it comes to increasing your fertility, it is recommended that you stay away from as much sugar as possible, even when it comes to fruits.

While bananas are a common smoothie staple, they do contain a lot of carbs. Instead, stick to low-sugar fruits such as strawberries and apples.

Just try to avoid frozen fruits since cold foods can literally “chill” your uterus and decrease your chances of conceiving.

2. Greens

Adding greens such as spinach, kale, and swiss chard is an amazing way to boost the power of your fertility smoothie!

You can steam them and let them cool before adding them to the smoothie to avoid having a weird texture.

3. Protein

A fertility smoothie is a good way to boost your protein intake while you are trying to conceive. The easiest way to do this is to use a protein powder – you can even get flavorless ones.

You can also use greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and chickpeas to boost your smoothie’s protein power!

4. Healthy Fats

Healthy fats include those that contain Omega-3s that increase your blood flow to your reproductive organs and help prevent miscarriages.

They can also improve ovulation which is helpful to those with PCOS.

Try adding healthy fats such as chia seeds, coconut oil, or avocado to your fertility smoothie.

5. Liquid

Unless you enjoy a good smoothie bowl, you’ll have to add in some liquid to make it a drink!

If you choose to use milk, use one that is full-fat which has been shown to support fertility.

You can also use good old-fashioned water, coconut milk, oat milk, and almond milk.

6. Fertility Boosting Foods

Lastly, you’ll want to add some fertility-boosting foods!

You can include fertility supplements and vitamins or foods such as maca root and wheatgrass.

How Do I Measure the Ingredients For My Fertility Smoothie?

The best part about making a smoothie using fertility booster foods is that you can pick and choose your ingredients based on your preferences and tastes!

However, you do want to make sure you have a good mix of the six I mentioned above without overdoing it.

The basic formula for making a smoothie is:

  • 1 cup fruit
  • 1-4 cups greens
  • ½ cup protein OR 1 scoop protein powder
  • 1 tablespoon fat
  • 1-1 ½ cups liquid
  • 1 teaspoon maca root or 2 tablespoons wheatgrass

I would definitely recommend changing up your fruits and greens so that you don’t get bored of the same taste every day!

Plus, your body will benefit from having a variety of nutritional sources and you won’t risk oxalic toxicity, which can deplete calcium from your bones if you eat too much of the same leafy greens all of the time.

What is the Best Way to Blend a Fertility Smoothie?

Now that you know what ingredients you need for your fertility smoothie and how much of each, let’s look at how to put it all together!

Apart from the nutritious and fertility booster foods you add to your smoothie, the order you blend the ingredients is also important in order to get the perfect texture.

Always start with your liquid and then your fruits and greens.

Add in your protein and fats to give it a creamy texture and then finish with your fertility-boosting foods!

Fertility Smoothie Recipe

Here is a super simple fertility smoothie recipe to get you started:

  • 1 cup full-fat milk
  • 1 cup raw spinach
  • ¼ cup blueberries
  • ½ cup strawberries
  • ¼ cup pineapple
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • ½ cup greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons wheatgrass

Use your blender to blend the ingredients. I have the Magic Bullet Blender and use it almost daily to make smoothies for my twins!

Will This Fertility Smoothie Work for Men?

Most fertility smoothie recipes include foods that increase fertility in females – but will these work for men too?

The great news is that all of the ingredients I have listed above for your fertility smoothie will boost sperm count and quality as well!

However, men are encouraged to include bananas in their smoothies because they are filled with bromelain and Vitamin B which can help to increase sperm count. Just make sure you don’t go overboard with other sugar-laden fruits.

Just like increasing fertility in females, men also have to be careful to stay away from excess sugars.

Other Fertility Boosting Foods You Both Can Enjoy!

You and your partner probably don’t want to drink smoothies all day, so it’s important to consider other fertility booster foods!

To increase your chances of conceiving, try adding these foods to your diet:

  • Lentils and beans
  • Lean meats (such as chicken, turkey, and beef)
  • Salmon

You can also increase your fertility by taking a good quality multivitamin, reducing your caffeine intake, and increasing your water intake.

Foods to Avoid When Trying to Get Pregnant

So we’ve talked quite a bit about the foods you should be adding to your diet in order to increase your fertility but it’s important to understand which foods you should avoid.

Here are some foods to avoid when trying to get pregnant (and why):

  • Red and processed meat: While lean meats are fine, red meats and deli meats should be avoided. This is because processed meat can lower sperm count and make it difficult for women to become pregnant.
  • Processed carbs: Stay away from foods that are high on the glycemic index such as white bread and pasta, baked goods, and packaged snack foods. These foods can spike your blood sugar and reduce your fertility.
  • Sugary drinks: Women who regularly consume sugar drinks (soda, energy drinks, etc.) can potentially end up with a low number of mature and fertilized eggs.
  • Excessive caffeine: No, you don’t have to give up your morning coffee but try to limit your intake to two cups or less per day. Drinking too much coffee (over five cups per day) can decrease fertility and increase the chances of a miscarriage.

The Best Smoothies for Pregnancy

Once you conceive, your smoothie journey doesn’t have to be over!

They are a great way to get the nutrition you need to encourage a safe and healthy pregnancy. A balanced diet is so important for the overall well-being of your baby.

The best smoothies for pregnancy include dark leafy greens as well as healthy fats like nuts and seeds.

But when you are making pregnancy smoothies, you can leave out the fertility-boosting supplements and add in some ginger. Ginger will not only boost your body with anti-oxidants but help with nausea as well!

Here’s a sample pregnancy smoothie recipe:

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 4 cups spinach
  • 1 cup mango
  • 1 orange, peeled
  • ½ avocado
  • ½ cup greek yogurt (you can use vanilla to add some sweetness)
  • 1 tablespoon ginger

Add the ingredients to your blender, whip it up, and enjoy!
